Why this exists
Most accounting software sold in Nigeria was designed somewhere else and adapted afterwards. Withholding tax is bolted on, the invoice does not carry what a Nigerian invoice needs, and reporting to the revenue service is somebody else's product.
What we decided
Build the things that are specific to trading here into the middle of the system rather than the edge: withholding on both sides, VAT taken from the ledger, invoices that carry bank details, and electronic invoicing on the same screen as the invoice.
Do the arithmetic on the server. A balance, a tax figure or a margin is calculated once, in one place, and the screen only displays it. Two people looking at the same number see the same number.
Make it work on a phone on a slow connection, because that is what the person on site actually has.
Do not charge for the accountant. The books being right is in everyone's interest, and charging for the person most likely to keep them right is a strange way to price software.
